Got Hacked Again

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008 at 12:49 pm

Well, it seems a bi-yearly occurrence that Woolie’s World gets hacked. This morning I came down to some Georgian Hackers are cool thing that filled every page on the site.

Oh well I thought, they will probably just have modified one of the configuration files like they usually do. However, this was not the case, they had deleted a good few posts (including the most recent ones). Thankfully I had taken a backup of the DB the night before, so everything is now restored. If I hadn’t taken a backup last night, I would have had to revert to the last backup which was August 2007! Obviously that would have made me quite annoyed (losing posts etc). It was sheer luck that I had taken a backup the night before I got hacked. Anyway, the moral of this story is… TAKE REGULAR BACKUPS!

Oh boy, to save someone the effort of hacking it out, I’ll change it right away!

Thank you very much for your continued efforts to make Woolie’s World a better place. :)

Also, if anyone is interested, it seemed to have been through a flaw in the Fredrik Fahlstad wp-forums version 1.7.4. plugin.

I saw the security bulletin but never got round to disabling it. Oh well.
