A new series of Woolie’s World articles awaits within!

Place names that made us chuckle!

Now then, in an attempt to rejuvenate the boring and lifeless elephant that is Woolie’s World, we’ve decided to bring out a new series of articles featuring our favorite subjects of, “funny place names” and “driving in the general direction of something interesting”. This will be taking the format of the old “ROFL of the week” but this time we are actually putting some effort into finding content! Shocking I know…

Anyway, lets get cracking with this weeks:

Place Name that made us chuckle - Shaftenhoe End

Shaftenhoe End! What a cracking place to start!

Now, a quick search of the old fact file tells us that

County: Hertfordshire
District: North Hertfordshire District Council
Population: 46

46 people ay? With retrospective thinking this may explain why there was absolutely no signpostage needed to help the 46 residents find their own homes or indeed point us towards the quaint village of Shaftenhoe End. Either that or they had all been stolen due to being funny…

Anyway, we spent far too long pointing and screaming at the outdated road atlas (we are high tech at Woolie’s World you understand) and have vowed to take a sat-nav in future outings. Eventually after taking the narrowest road, due to sods law stating that the intended destination will be the hardest to get to, we were greeted with:

SCORE!

After some ghetto parking we were also able to obtain some quality pictures while the 46 residents were none the wiser of Woolie’s cheesy grins or discrete tunes courtesy of Radio 1 (we suppose most of them have died from lack of contact with the outside world or something).

And with that done, this weeks mission is complete
