Clambering Back On The Rails

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 at 1:34 am

As predicted, its happened. Over the summer holidays, I’ve gradually gone off track. Having gone from biking every single day, swimming twice a week and weight training before the holidays, I now haven’t biked for over a week. However, things are about to change again.

A Brainwave?

During one of my daily “thinking” sessions in the shower (its where I’m most productive, don’t quite know why). I got back the biking high again. Just thinking of the pure motivation I had before the holidays has left me all pumped up to start again. My first hurdle is going to be the weather. Riding in the rain was something that I have never enjoyed, however with the absolutely awful forecast for tomorrow, I’m going to go out in it no matter what the weather. Hopefully, this will knock that mental barrier over, and I can start to get back on track with my cycling (and exercise in general). It was a blog post from a late night shower session that gave me the motivation to start last time, so I’m hoping it will do the same again.

Cycling In The Rain

Craving Endorphins

You really can’t beat the rush of endorphins that you get after a hard cycle session. This is something that I haven’t had for a long time, and can’t wait to experience it again. It took a while for me to get up to the standard needed for me to really enjoy cycling and get some good speed out of the old legs, and I’m just hoping I haven’t left it too late to reclaim the power I had without too much effort.

Long-Term Plans

Yes, it may sound a little crazy, but I’ve been planning it for a while now. I’m looking at cycling from John O’ Groats to Lands End. If I can raise enough money, then I’m hoping to do it in the next summer holidays after the exams. I envisage it will take around 7 days, and this would cost quite a bit (travelling to the North, buying the trailer and gear, and then getting back from Lands End, not to mention accommodation along the way).

I would be doing it to raise money for a charity, which particular one I have yet to decide, however I have a couple in mind. Thinking about it, I could probably raise quite a good amount if I advertise a lot.

heh, Groats. Gropes. - - - - John’ O’Gropes.

anyways, that looks like it could be quite the experience. I mean travelling the country and hopefully visiting many towns (and pubs) sounds great.
