It has been requested by one of my members here that I write an article on how to design a table tennis site on which table tennis goods will be sold. At first I thought that he was just trying to get a free website out of me, but then I realised that his real aim was to educate other people, so that if they were in the same situation, they would know how to cope. Let us begin…
The Initial Designs & Ideas
Before starting work on a site, it is always a good idea to plan out your ideas on paper first. This helps you clear your mind from any bad design ideas (think blink and marquee) and generally puts you on the right track. Using a sheet of high quality parchment paper, record your ideas and thoughts, so you can refer back to them later. I find it easier to use a spider diagram!
This is the rough plan that I have come up with for this website:
As you can see, I have brainstormed my knowledge of the sport, and the possible sales hooks that could be used to grab more customers.
Preliminary Designs
This stage carries just as much importance as the recording of the ideas. When you start to design your site on paper, it will start to take shape in your mind, and will be a lot easier when you open up your image editor (today I will be using paint). If you don’t like your design at this stage, then it is very easy to change it later. I have sketched up a few ideas of what I think the site should look like. If you’re designing for a client, this is the time to show him your drawings. If he doesn’t like it, then you haven’t just wasted 10 hours of your life.
The Final Piece!
After you have entered some software of your choice and have made your website, it is ready to be shown to the big wide world! A site like this one could generate you a very large revenue, so I hope you’re ready.
BNSPORTS, I present you with, YOUR SITE!
