The Sleep Button - BURNY!!!

Sunday, February 18th, 2007 at 2:27 pm

As you will know from reading my last post, I have just purchased a gas 4 in 1 burny machine. I was also informed by Ben that the sleep button on my keyboard was of no use at all. So, what I felt needed to be done in a situation like this was to burn it off.

This is a picture I took near the start of the burning process, there are only traces of brown burnt stuff. This is here to illustrate what the sleep button did look like.

After a short while, it caught alight and spewed happy plastic fumes in my face. It was at this point that I employed my industrial style fat-assed fan to pump air in through one of my windows and out of the other to stop me feeling light headed.

After a bit of careful moving about and temperature control, I was able to have the sleep button melt into the case and disappear totally. Unfortunately, a little too much excitement was felt, and being a little fire happy, I melted a nice dent into the corner of my keyboard.

I feel the keyboards pain, but at the same time feel an extreme sense of pleasure with my whole pyromania thingy

What an unfortunate waste of decent technology :(
—————————————————————-

The sleep button is best used for pissing off the one who’s using the computer.
It’s primary reason however is to simply reduce power consumption.

However, if this MRAM memory arrives soon, then there’ll be no use for a sleep button since it’ll be almost as good to simply turn the thing off.

Your choice really, if you’re planning on an upgrade. Either that or getting a high from fumes.

Tell me - what sensation did you experience?

BTW - the above post is not a flame post!

Lol, on the fumes situation, I replied on the “Random Buys” post.

The only use for the sleep button is to be an incredible annoyance. Due to the amount of memory leakage that Windows programs generally produce, I don’t think I’d ever use the sleep button seriously.

Yea, MRAM… M price as well.

3 articles in a row, alone on pyromaniac situations - what a gem.

Well, if there’s a memory leak, then you can get these programs that clear your memory. Too bad I don’t know any that’re fof a good price.

As for MRAM, the M at the beginning I assume is for ‘magnetic.’ The idea’s that it’s non-volatile, so that you can turn off your computer, run off for a few hours then turn it on again to find that you’re in the same state as before (as in that you don’t have to have the computer boot stuff, so you can shut-down the computer with a bunch of Apps still running).

Yea the idea is to use magnetism and has been around for a few months. However getting it to work without interference from other components is proving difficult I believe, but it will be nice when its done.

Oh yes… Saves users from wasting a minute to boot a computer.

What about viruses though? There’s the possibility they could lodge themselves into the Mram’s storage.

Hardly, remembering that the memory is still random access, its still going to be wiped very regularly throughout pc use, and especially when the pc is shut down.

Its all speculation at the moment though. As far as I know they are having quite a few difficulties with getting it all to work ;)
Ooh and as a sidenote, its very unlikely that MRAM will mean extremely quick startup/resuming, although it will speed it up quite a bit.

“What about viruses though? There’s the possibility they could lodge themselves into the Mram’s storage.”

A virus is just a piece of malicious code. MRAM will transfer/store data it in the same way that current RAM does. The access abstraction on the RAM by the operating system ensures that the higher level programs access MRAM in the same way as normal stuff does. No change for developers, no change for virus authors.

I agree with everyone, as my knowledge of MRAM is about as intricate as bens first hand knowledge of clitoral stimulising techniques. :)

Perhaps he has a better knowledge of clitoral stimulating?
