Random Buys

As usual, I had a flick through the sales on the Maplin spam crap. Usually its full of over priced useless stuff that you’ll never used, and today didn’t disappoint, but something caught my eye. Something so amazing that it deserved to have me purchase it.

Item 1: Solderpro 70

This little magical stick of fire will provide me with excellent reachability when soldering things in awkward places (as they usually are).

Solderpro 70

This is what the Solderpro70 has for me:

  • 1mm catalytic soldering tip
  • Torch head for pinpoint flame
  • Hot knife attachment
  • Hot air blower
  • Tip cleaning sponge
  • Coil of Solder
  • Heavy duty box

Please do take note of that “Torch head for pinpoint flame”. The amount of things I have burnt already is quite astonishing. Tesco bags work the best I’ve found, shrivel up in seconds with minimal death fumes. Heres a picture of it in action, you can click on it for the full sized one. Also note that the only reason I bought this is to burn things, I’ll probably never solder anything with it :).

Item 2: DVBT PCI TV Card

This fabulous item allows me to watch Freeview in the confinement of my own room. Even though I’ve got a quite happy 28″ wide-screen sitting beside me, I’m just too damn lazy to turn it on.

DVBT PCI TV Card

Through the advancements of modern technology, I now have a TV on my PC, which is of course uber cool and I can record all the programs that I’ll never watch into one huge fuck MPEG file. I thank you for your time and patience.

Kickarse.

Incidentally, I have a cable that needs cleaning up and soldering. Do you think you could do anything with that?

^

Think it would probably only result in one very charred cable, but a nice thought all the same….

@ Woolie - Don’t suppose you could use the torch stuff for your physics/electronics stuff as well as for fun too?

BTW - be careful what you burn. Certain plastics can evolve harmful gases. PVC for example produces Chlorine when burned, & Plastic straws can also give off Hydrogen Cyanide.

Tesco bags are probably made of polyethene, so shouldn’t be too much of a harm when burned. Mind you, it does contribute to global warming…

In the burny posts, I mention dangerous gases of plastic death quite often. Felt quite light headed after the hot knife I swear. Also the immense amounts of fans I had on pumping the air through made sure I wasn’t dieing. But thanks for your concern :)

It’s sometimes odd what you get to know in Chemistry lessons…
