The Guitarage of Matt

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007 at 6:14 pm

This being my 1st post since having been made an author (big up Woolie) I thought I would talk about the subject which my time revolves around most.

No, not that Woolie.

GUITARS

Guitar Rack

I currently am in ownerage of 6 guitars, 3 of which are electric and the other three are of course acoustic. I have them spread handily around the world, (that’s right), so that you are never that far away from a geetar which is always handy, (don’t have to leave bed to start playing).

No1

The first one that I got was back in year 8 when I had acoustic lessons that was quite a simple guitar and not all that new but nonetheless it was my first it is very sentimental (what a load of tripe). But it now lives in the house in Norway, so it is nice and working whenever we go there. In fact on taking it over there the bridge snapped off, probably due to a flimsy case, anyway upon getting there me and my dad went into the hardware store to purchase some small blots and wood glue which is now holding it firmly until the apocalypse (or the guitar just gets too old).

I apologise for there being no picture of the first guitar, but hey it’s in another bloody country. So who really gives a toss?

No2

I got was a jolly Christmas present to replace the rapidly breaking 1st guitar, which has been my main guitar thus far.

Dark Acoustic

I really like this one because it has a deep full bodied tone which is great for playing acoustic classics such as “time of your life” and “pinball wizard”. This one has probably gotten the most usage over the years as it is just so easy to pick up and start strumming so it is starting to display the tell tale signs of age, as the first one did a few years previously. So I may be forced to reconsider my main acoustic and buy another, but we will see.

No 3: Shine Stratocaster

This was my first electric and was a Christmas present which I began plan playing pop punk such as Greenday and Sum 41, I then traversed the guitaring styles through classic rock, think ac/dc and led zep, on to some metal, Pantera and Metallica on to modern metal, Trivium and BFMV and back to some good old fashioned Metallica.

But that was where it all started, sitting in the dirty music corridor strumming with low amounts of skill :( to basket case and the such like.

So here she is,

Sunburst Guitar

Quite lovely, I’m sure you’ll agree.

This guitar has surprisingly good tone considering it was a cheapo 1st guitar. It has a considerably heavier body than my other two electrics which as any audiophile or guitar maniac will know gives a sweet sound not dissimilar to a Gibson Les Paul (insert gargling and look of awe here), so it is rather good for that type of thing, G n’ R, zep etc.
Being my first electric guitar I will probably never sell this one, although I may be forced to take measures to ensure its quality remains as it does. For instance I hope to try wire shielding before too long, and I will post how that goes.

Anyway…

Sadly I became ravenous for more so entered the world of internet shopping (a slippery slope indeed) and purchased the very sensual.

No4: Yamaha Pacifica 112 JMX

This is a rather lovely wood finish Yamaha Pacifica 112 with a swishy humbucker in the bridge which is the best to use when you’re after extreme distortion. Another thing I liked about it was the maple next which I think looks rather sexy, with the wood body.

So this guitar quickly became my main axe and did a great deal of trundling to and from schoolio which is sadly starting to show :( but I have now taken steps to limit bad stuff happening

  • wiping it down after playing to avoid rust on the chrome hardware
  • keeping all sellotape holders far away, (Woolie knows what I mean)
  • and even being gentle with her

Wood Finish Guitar

Having this rather delightful electric, I soon began desiring a swish acoustic, so it was time for…..

No5

Now number 5 is my third acoustic and I thought I would go for something a little different to the previous two, so this one is a small bodied cheery sounding guitar that has an awesome sound and can handle most rock songs well, due to good neck access near the body.

Here she is, note that the wood is lighter than my other acoustics which I personally fine rather endearing.

Light Acoustic Guitar

This particular guitar is still in good nick, and I hope it will stay that way for a long time to come:)

So………………..

Finally we reach the heralded finishing post, my latest buy.

No6: Ibanez RG350EX

This is definitely my best guitar primarily cos of the sweet Floyd rose tremolo system, which none of my previous guitars had. This makes tuning highly stable (It doesn’t change however much whammy bar abuse I hurl at it. Also the tone is bitchin’.

So here it is

Nice Guitar

And here is some close ups of the main bits on a Floyd rose, in case anyone is intrigued.

Bridge

Bridge

And the locking top nut

Top Nut

So this guitar is also the most metal guitar I’ve got, both in looks and sound. It has that lovely brushed aluminium scratch plate. As well as darkened chrome hardware. I personally think it is quite spiffy indeed.

The tone of this guitar is absolutely mental; it is built for pinched harmonics :) and tapping :) and sweep picking :) :) :) All of these things make for one angry axe, so when playing master of puppets or something a little mentally it just gets a bit crazy.

Basically that’s where we are and I’m cheerful, but what does the future hold.

Who knows, and to be honest who even gives a rat’s ass.

Thankyou for that useful insight, and as I already knew all of this is was pointless for me, nonetheless this was a concise and accurate explanation of your collection of guitars.
Well Done

Alright, then ignore the comment/poem I posted earlier here. You’ll find it.

So, is it… Matt Morris!?
Or is it some mysterious other guitarist out of the Void I have yet to meet?

Challenging! :D
If I don’t know you, then I suppose I’ll have to get some more clues :)

You need not fear of Woolie’s meagre joke, seeing as you know me, you know that I am infact fairly ordinary (apart from the mod, YES!)

You might also know that I am infact pretty shit at badminton…

Infact, was it Wednesday, 1st period?

Matt

Nope, it was thursday p2

Woolie

February 15th, 2007 at 1:52 pm

Matt

February 15th, 2007 at 3:37 pm

Quite true woolie

And with zany being a computer nerd, I could well believe his shiteyness at any and all sports.

Zany Reaper

February 15th, 2007 at 5:47 pm

You know, I really wish you wouldn’t be rude to me & take the mick at almost every post. I’m an equal, just a little more knowledgable with computers & 3D modding.

I of course could show you all my artwork, but seeing as you really don’t like me, you’re probably not interested.

Matt

February 16th, 2007 at 6:22 am

Who is that being addressed too

Zany Reaper

February 16th, 2007 at 8:29 am

Both you :(
I just want to be treated a bit more like an equal. I don’t mean to cause any trouble, I just suffer from something called ‘dramatic irony.’

Woolie

February 16th, 2007 at 5:52 pm

Ok ok, stop with the crazy “no girls” shit and we will perhaps lighten up… You see we’re sex obsessed here at Woolie.co.uk, the more porn the merrier so to speak.

Ah go on show us your “artwork” then, although if its anything produced by 3DMax you’re being branded as a bit of a “hop on the bandwagon” type thing :-)

Woolie

February 16th, 2007 at 5:53 pm

Oh, and Matt is our resident flamer… We just keep a fire extinguisher with us so he doesn’t get us.

Zany Reaper

February 16th, 2007 at 6:22 pm

Thanks, I’ll shut up about the personal disadvantage I have then. I knew you’d understand…
Same with matt, kinda…

Well, unfortunately for you lot - it IS made with 3DS max & the Gimp 2.2. Pretty decent stuff.

Matt

February 17th, 2007 at 12:22 pm

Yes I’m sex obsessed, Yes I’m a flaming raging lunatic, and Yes I would like to see some of your crazy artwork 3DMax or Not

Zany Reaper

Damn it, while I would post some links (to the stuff that I’d deem appropriate, for a lot of the work I’ve done are often conversions/adjustments), I’m using a Linux computer.
As it turns out, Mozilla Firefox on this Linux machine is incompatible with the background of the site etc…
Doesn’t happen on Windows Firefox however, shame…

Anyways, I’ll see if I can post a link to 2 things:
The Ork Kustim Stompa, & the Kroot Mounted Great Knarloc. They’re both based off/are warhammer 40K models, & have been recently put into Dawn of War.

Here’s a link to the forgeworld miniature of the Mounted Great Knarloc. I’ll show you my work on the Bolt thrower model laters.

THIS IS NOT MY MODEL:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/btknarloc.htm

I must admit, the paint job is fairly cool however (apart from the lack of highlights on the bolt thrower miniature).

————————————–

Alternatively, you can try googling ‘Zany Reaper.’ You’ll get a lot of matches, including that damned 40Konline forum one (which hasn’t got any of my good stuff on it either).

Thanks for your time. :)

Anyways, I think that there’s some kind of limit here so I’ll make it brief:

If you wanna see my stuff, search for it on google. Type in my name & you’ll see…
