This being my 1st post since having been made an author (big up Woolie) I thought I would talk about the subject which my time revolves around most.
No, not that Woolie.
GUITARS

I currently am in ownerage of 6 guitars, 3 of which are electric and the other three are of course acoustic. I have them spread handily around the world, (that’s right), so that you are never that far away from a geetar which is always handy, (don’t have to leave bed to start playing).

The first one that I got was back in year 8 when I had acoustic lessons that was quite a simple guitar and not all that new but nonetheless it was my first it is very sentimental (what a load of tripe). But it now lives in the house in Norway, so it is nice and working whenever we go there. In fact on taking it over there the bridge snapped off, probably due to a flimsy case, anyway upon getting there me and my dad went into the hardware store to purchase some small blots and wood glue which is now holding it firmly until the apocalypse (or the guitar just gets too old).
I apologise for there being no picture of the first guitar, but hey it’s in another bloody country. So who really gives a toss?

I got was a jolly Christmas present to replace the rapidly breaking 1st guitar, which has been my main guitar thus far.

I really like this one because it has a deep full bodied tone which is great for playing acoustic classics such as “time of your life” and “pinball wizard”. This one has probably gotten the most usage over the years as it is just so easy to pick up and start strumming so it is starting to display the tell tale signs of age, as the first one did a few years previously. So I may be forced to reconsider my main acoustic and buy another, but we will see.
No 3: Shine Stratocaster
This was my first electric and was a Christmas present which I began plan playing pop punk such as Greenday and Sum 41, I then traversed the guitaring styles through classic rock, think ac/dc and led zep, on to some metal, Pantera and Metallica on to modern metal, Trivium and BFMV and back to some good old fashioned Metallica.
But that was where it all started, sitting in the dirty music corridor strumming with low amounts of skill
to basket case and the such like.
So here she is,

Quite lovely, I’m sure you’ll agree.
This guitar has surprisingly good tone considering it was a cheapo 1st guitar. It has a considerably heavier body than my other two electrics which as any audiophile or guitar maniac will know gives a sweet sound not dissimilar to a Gibson Les Paul (insert gargling and look of awe here), so it is rather good for that type of thing, G n’ R, zep etc.
Being my first electric guitar I will probably never sell this one, although I may be forced to take measures to ensure its quality remains as it does. For instance I hope to try wire shielding before too long, and I will post how that goes.
Anyway…
Sadly I became ravenous for more so entered the world of internet shopping (a slippery slope indeed) and purchased the very sensual.
No4: Yamaha Pacifica 112 JMX
This is a rather lovely wood finish Yamaha Pacifica 112 with a swishy humbucker in the bridge which is the best to use when you’re after extreme distortion. Another thing I liked about it was the maple next which I think looks rather sexy, with the wood body.
So this guitar quickly became my main axe and did a great deal of trundling to and from schoolio which is sadly starting to show
but I have now taken steps to limit bad stuff happening
- wiping it down after playing to avoid rust on the chrome hardware
- keeping all sellotape holders far away, (Woolie knows what I mean)
- and even being gentle with her

Having this rather delightful electric, I soon began desiring a swish acoustic, so it was time for…..

Now number 5 is my third acoustic and I thought I would go for something a little different to the previous two, so this one is a small bodied cheery sounding guitar that has an awesome sound and can handle most rock songs well, due to good neck access near the body.
Here she is, note that the wood is lighter than my other acoustics which I personally fine rather endearing.

This particular guitar is still in good nick, and I hope it will stay that way for a long time to come:)
So………………..
Finally we reach the heralded finishing post, my latest buy.
No6: Ibanez RG350EX
This is definitely my best guitar primarily cos of the sweet Floyd rose tremolo system, which none of my previous guitars had. This makes tuning highly stable (It doesn’t change however much whammy bar abuse I hurl at it. Also the tone is bitchin’.
So here it is

And here is some close ups of the main bits on a Floyd rose, in case anyone is intrigued.
Bridge

And the locking top nut

So this guitar is also the most metal guitar I’ve got, both in looks and sound. It has that lovely brushed aluminium scratch plate. As well as darkened chrome hardware. I personally think it is quite spiffy indeed.
The tone of this guitar is absolutely mental; it is built for pinched harmonics
and tapping
and sweep picking
:)
All of these things make for one angry axe, so when playing master of puppets or something a little mentally it just gets a bit crazy.
Basically that’s where we are and I’m cheerful, but what does the future hold.
Who knows, and to be honest who even gives a rat’s ass.
